The objectives of the Advocacy and support Program are:
  • To sensitize children and youth about their rights, including sexuality and reproductive health with the view t prevent unwanted/unplanned pregnancies and sexual abuse;
  • To increase the awareness in local communities about protection of children’s rights, child mothers reintegrated in families, schools and local communities or alternative networks;
  • To develop and build the capacity of child mothers to deal with their social and economic needs through skills training and personal development.

The major activities carried out during the 6 years to fulfill these objectives include:

  1. Sensitization and training of local leaders, teachers, parents and youths on children rights and responsibilities, child parenthood causes and effects and sexuality and reproductive health and rights and facilitation of clubs;
  2. Training children in and out of school on their rights and responsibilities, sexuality and reproductive health and formation of Child rights clubs and Peer discussion Groups;
  3. Training child mothers in various skills to build their capacity and re-integration for the child mothers in families and schools.

During the second phase of the Advocacy and support program for child mothers (2002-2005) SMAU replicated its services to three more communities of Masulita, Namayumba and Katabi sub-counties.

In 2004-2005 SMAU has been privileged to implement the Global fund HIV/AIDS project in Wakiso district.
