The major activities carried out during the past few years to fulfill the organisations objectives include:

  • Since 1999 SMAU has worked in five sub-counties of Wakiso District namely: Entebbe Municipal Council, Katabi, Ssisa, Namayumba, Masulita sub counties. The organization has been targeting stakeholders like children, youth teachers, local leaders, religious leaders, police and health providers sensitizing them on children rights and responsibilities, abuse and neglect as well as causes and effects of child parenthood;
  • SMAU has also trained them to be club facilitators, child advocates and peer educators. It has also worked with children both in school and out of school, sensitizing them on their rights and responsibilities, on abuse and neglect, and child parenthood as well as training them in reproductive health and rights;
  • SMAU has facilitated schools in formation of child rights clubs and peer discussion groups
  • It has worked with 32 primary schools and 29 secondary schools in the seven years, reaching over 6000 school children and 2000 out of school children;
  • Since 1995 SMAU has trained over 500 child mothers who have come to the center in multiple practical skills and life skills to empower them and enable them to earn a living and be able to look after their children;
  • SMAU has been able to counsel over 330 cases of other vulnerable children who call at the center and also formed 10 community based groups to cater for vulnerable youth and child parents;
  • SMAU has reached the rest of the country through radio programs over 30 programs and 150 info-sports on five different stations; Radio Simba, Central Broadcasting Service, Radio One, Voice of Toro Radio Phaida, Top Radio, Prime Radio, and Capital Radio (in five different languages i.e. English, Luganda, Lunyoro, Rutoro, and Luo) discussing issues of child-parenthood, children rights, reproductive health and rights and parenting skills; appealing to parents to give their daughters a second chance to continue with education after delivery;
  • SMAU has established 3 youth friendly outreach centers where young people come for information sharing on issues of HIV/AIDS, life skills, adolescent reproductive health and Recreation activities. To-date over 1500 young people and children have accessed and utilized these centers;
  • SMAU has worked with 23 youth and women groups to sensitize communities on the new HIV/AIDS interventions like PMTCT, VCT and ARVS through music, dance and drama and seminars;
  • A total of 44 orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) have been equipped with vocational skills in tailoring, cookery, hairdressing, carpentry, welding, mechanics, agriculture, nutrition and life skills to enable them create employment or be employed;
  • Over 2000 in-school children have been trained in life skills to enhance their response to HIV/AIDS;
  • SMAU was the agent NGO that implemented the Nutrition and Early Childhood Development program in Entebbe Division B Sub County. This program is a government program ran by Ministry of Health and sponsored by World Bank at district level to the sub county;
  • During the second phase of the Advocacy and Support Program for child mothers (2002-2005) SMAU replicated its services to three more communities of Masulita, Namayumba and Katabi sub-counties;
  • In 2004-2005 SMAU has been privileged to implement the Global Fund HIV/AIDS project in Wakiso distict.
  • In 2006-2008, SMAU extended to Nakaseke district project "Women and child empowerment and Human rights promotion project" in the sub-counties of Semuto and kapeka
